Message From County Executive Chris Coons
Dear Friends,
One of my visions as County Executive has been to promote good environmental stewardship for New Castle County. As citizens continue to see their fuel and energy prices go up, so does New Castle County Government. With energy costs alone over $4 million each year, we are taking steps to address our own energy consumption and emissions in order to bring costs down for taxpayers and protect the environment.
In March 2007, New Castle County joined the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). As a member of the campaign, New Castle County will be taking steps to inventory its greenhouse gas emissions, develop an action plan for reducing these emissions and become more energy efficient.
ICLEI is an international membership of local governments who are focused on addressing environmental issues in their communities. New Castle County joins ICLEI's hallmark program, the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Campaign which currently includes more than 180 cities, towns, and counties across the United States, and more than 770 communities worldwide.
Through other initiatives such as recycling everyday products in our buildings to using mulch in our parks made from yard waste received at the landfill, New Castle County continues to seek out ways to do more to lessen our impact on the environment.
On this page you will find information regarding New Castle County's efforts to be more energy efficient, and links to resources that can provide you and your family with information on steps you can take at home to help the environment and save money.
Sincerely,
