Dog Licenses
As of January 1, 2010, dog licensing in the State of Delaware will no longer be administered by the State. Residents of New Castle County will need to obtain dog licenses from the county with the exception of residents of the City of Wilmington. Wilmington residents will continue to purchase their dog licenses from the City.
Individual Dog License Requirements
Licenses are issued for each calendar year beginning January 1 and ending December 31.
All dogs 6 months of age or older as of Jan 1 of a given calendar year must be licensed for that year.
State law allows a 60 day grace period for obtaining a license which means that all licenses must be obtained by March 1st.
Each dog being licensed must have a current rabies vaccination at the time the license is issued.
