Updates and Special Information

Check this page regularly for news bulletins or information on the application of code requirements.  This is your on-line resource center for information on New Castle County training sessions, clarification on requirements relating to such construction details as stucco application or duct work, and other announcements.

ATTENTION MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS
The adoption of Section 506.3.2.5 of the 2006 International Mechanical Code (and 2007 Supplement) now requires a light test to be performed on all grease ducts serving Type I Hoods.  The performance of this test shall be witnessed by the New Castle County - Inspection Division or by a Delaware register design professional in this discipline prior to the ductwork being concealed.  To ensure this test is completed, all permit applications containing this scope of work will now load with a "Grease Hood Light Test" inspection.  This preventative measure was set forth to ensure grease is contained within the ductwork and not cause any potential fire conditions to the surrounding construction.  Please feel free to contact the Inspection Division at 395-5572 with questions.

License Requirements

All individuals and businesses who provide construction and building improvement services are required to obtain a New Castle County contractor license, in addition to the State of Delaware business license. Those who provide work requiring building permits need a permit contractor endorsement license. Click on the link on the left for “Licensing” information and to purchase or renew your license.

Permit Requirements

Please review the permit requirements for the type of permit you are seeking to ensure that you have all the required materials.  You may also want to check our on-line property information link to ensure that the homeowner does not have any outstanding taxes or sewer charges on the property.  Building permits cannot be issued for properties with overdue or outstanding balances.

Certificate of Occupancy

Remember that as the contractor, you are responsible for ensuring that all inspections are passed and that a certificate of occupancy is obtained once the project is completed.
