Award Winners
Blue Hen Award
- The Blue Hen Book Awards are children and teen choice awards sponsored by the Children’s Services Division of the Delaware Library Association. The purpose of the award is to encourage literacy and library use by children and teens.
Caldecott Medal
- Named for Randolph Caldecott, the medal is awarded to the artist of the most distiguished American picture book for children. It is presented by the American Library Association's ALSC (Association for Library Service to Children) division.
Coretta Scott King Award - Author
- Given to African American authors for outstanding inspirational and educational contributions to promote understanding and appreciation of the culture of all peoples.
Coretta Scott King Award - Illustrator
- Given to African American illustrators for outstanding inspirational and educational contributions to promote understanding and appreciation of the culture of all peoples.
John Steptoe Award
- The John Steptoe Award for New Talent, given to an African American author and to an African American illustrator for an outstanding book, is designed to affirm new talent and to offer visibility to excellence in writing and/or illustration.
Michael L. Printz Award
- Named for a long-time member of the American Library Association's YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) division and school librarian from Topeka, Kansas. This award is given annually for excellence in young adult literature.
Newbery Award
- The award given to the author of the best American book for children. It is named after John Newbery, an 1800s English bookseller, and is awarded annually by the American Library Association's ALSC division.
Odyssey Award
- This annual award will be given to the producer of the best audiobook produced for children and/or young adults, available in English in the United States.
Pura Belpre Award - Author
- The Pura Belpré Award is presented to a Latino/Latina writer whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
Pura Belpre Award - Illustrator
- The Pura Belpré Award is presented to a Latino/Latina illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
Robert F. Sibert Medal
- The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal is awarded annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished informational book published in English during the preceding year.
Schneider Family Book Award
- The Schneider Family Book Awards honor an author or illustrator for a book that embodies an artistic expression of the disability experience for child and adolescent audiences.
Theodore Seuss Geisel Award
- The Theodor Seuss Geisel Award is given annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States during the preceding year.
YALSA Non-Fiction Award
- The YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction honors the best nonfiction book published for young adults (ages 12-18).
