As the weather warms at Rockwood we are not only excited for spring birds and blooms, we are excited about the major roof restoration and re-coating of the mansion roof!
More than ten years after the roof was last painted, the roof currently has large rust stains, corroded metal panels, and even areas where the paint has peeled to expose the bare metal roof panels. Despite the appearance of the rust on the roof, the structure is essentially sound with some water infiltration around the masonry and chimneys.
The crew prepares the roof for coating by removing all loose paint.

It was a long wet summer, but it has been a glorious autumn (so far). Progress is moving quickly on the roof at Rockwood!
Paint preparations are completed, the roof has been primed, and painting is progressing west to east along the roof. In addition to establishing the proper base for the new paint, roofers completed needed repairs to the Portico and Sleeping Porch roofs. The copper looking roof on the Portico will be painted.
